Tim Bridges served as director of Knowledge Management for Boeing from in June 2009 to March 2018. In this role, Bridges led the design and implementation of a company-wide knowledge management program. He utilized his project management and engineering background to set Boeing’s strategy and approach for rapidly leveraging expertise across the enterprise to execute business, and preserving knowledge as organizations relocate and employees retire. He forged strategic partnerships with P&L entities and company-wide functions like Engineering, Intellectual Property Management, IT, and HR to weave KM into the company’s fabric in a business focused fashion. He established a corporate level KM risk and mitigation plan, executed the plan, and lowered corporate risk.

Tim briefed Boeing’s CEO, Jim McNerney, and his direct reports, gaining approval to adjust proprietary information sharing policy and implement business focused KM capabilities. Boeing’s KM approach has been benchmarked by six major U.S. organizations and two international entities. Bridges delivered a keynote speech at the Human Capital Institute’s 2012 Employee Engagement Conference, spoke at George Washington University in 2013 and The World Bank’s global webcast in 2017. He has written for the Project Management Institute and Harvard Business Review blog.

Bridges established KM capabilities were established to leverage and converge existing efforts, augment where needed, and align work to Boeing’s business objectives.  Boeing Designated Experts were established to provide a digitally accessible authoritative layer of expertise for all functions, domestic and international.  Communities were simplified from 8 various approaches into 3 basic types, two of which must be business relevant, and one of which must be “One Boeing” –  aligned to, and approved by the company’s leadership responsible for the community’s  business topic.    These capabilities connected the company at the line of sight to work in high priority business knowledge areas.  Additionally, lessons learned, historical knowledge repositories, mentoring, search, and knowledge transfer workshops and a tracking were established. The approach and capabilities are generally reflected in this website, to the extent this information was released publicly for various US and International benchmarking activities.

Bridges holds four patents and published two technical papers. He holds a Master of Science in Systems Architecture and Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Fullerton. He held a DOD Top Secret security clearance with SSBI/SCI Polygraph (1999 to 2015).  Currently Bridges consults. He also volunteers for Hire Heroes USA (an organization that helps veterans), and for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
