INNOVATION

Building a bridge beyond knowledge to an application of that knowledge is a form of innovation. Even a small innovation is important because it often leads to another innovation person building on it. This page lays out some innovations from Bridges Beyond Knowledge that arose from a specific need. A business that can articulate a clear business need will foster employee innovation.

One-Handed

Image Capture

Wearable electronic image and video capture devices are generally mounted on a helmet or chest, and run all the time, capturing continuous video while performing activities.  The Snapshot Buddy captures images in the time it takes to point a fist. One simply makes a fist pointing in the intended direction, and squeezes to take photos one-handed. This is useful in unexpected situations (driving by an accident scene, fun animal photo opportunities, etc.) when you need to capture what is happening instantly, without accessing a phone, and needing to swipe to unlock the camera.

Adhesive Life Extender

AdX Adhesive Life Extender Sensor Buddy

AdX device for Type 1 Diabetics who wear the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (or other medical sensor) and find the sensor patch adhesive doesn't last the full life of the sensor. When worn around the abdomen, the Velstretch™ straps serve as an elastic to hold a plate against the Dexcom sensor patch edges and keep them from peeling away while showering. This extends the life of the adhesive patch. It should be used in the shower once you notice the edges of your adhesive patch peeling away. Typically using AdX for the last few days of a 10 day session can extend the adhesive the full 10 days. Patent claims were allowed by the USPTO in February 2023.

Gator Rain Buddy

This is an anti-sag device for the canopy cover that keeps rain from puddling in the sag of a canopy between the canopy supports. It snaps into place between the roll cage support bars and lifts the canopy so that rain and morning dew runs off, rather than pooling (only to spill out later at inopportune moments). A development unit has been in service successfully for 3 years.

Other Buddies

Gear System Shadow

Other "buddies" are in the conceptual phase. They relate to Kindles, hotel doors, agave trimming, and gopher control. All are simple solutions to problems like AdX and the Gator Rain Buddy. If you are interested in partnering in development, please contact Bridges Beyond Knowledge to learn more. Plastics forming, chemistry, materials, and manufacturing capabilities are desirable.
